oil consumption
 

hi guys, i have an xtz660 with 45000kms on clock just did 3500kms with fully loaded bike and girlfriend on the back.
the bike used about 1.6 litres of oil on the trip.
is this about normal for a heavily loaded bike being ridden in warm conditions.

1.6 litres of oil over 3,500kms/2,200miles is not too bad, towards the upper end of the range.

If it continues, look at new rings and/or valve stem seals.

Hi,
that is normal for XTZ 660, bike is well known oil consumption engine. Probably engine takes no oil when oil is fresh, and consumption increases as miles go by. I have found out that optimum oil for XTZ 660 is ester blend 15W-50.
