My SuMo Saga....
Finally got serious about tearing down my XT6 tonight......
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1.../XT6SM/023.jpg I'm soooo glad I'm doing a frame-up resto.....'cause I knew I'd find other issues that'll need addressing :rolleyes2:...... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1.../XT6SM/021.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1.../XT6SM/020.jpg Looks to be a crappy weld from the factory that finally gave way to the notorious vibes of a Big Thump.... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1.../XT6SM/019.jpg I was pumped to find a K&N already in the airbox.....that appears to only be in need of a good cleaning...:thumbup1: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1.../XT6SM/022.jpg Decided to call it a day.....but not before ringing up my MetalFab buddy to inquire of his services for prepping the frame.... He told me his Mom is ready to go over the Floor Plan I drew up for her new house.....tomorrow.......which means I'll finally have some coin to order those motor parts! :D Also re-confirmed with a workmate about powder-coating the frame, skidplate, & footpeg brackets..... He's already got the colors I'm looking for....Fire Engine Red for the frame.....& Satin black for the rest......only gonna cost me $100!:thumbup1: More to come as things progress.......... :mchappy: |
:thumbup1::thumbup1: looks like a rebuild thread in the making... looking forward to it..
|
I never realized this could be an issue on these bikes. thanks for showing me, I've gotta take a good look at mine and probaby do a little welding work.
|
Last thing I saw before I crashed last night....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1.../XT6SM/016.jpg Got up early this morning & finshed dismantling, loaded up the the frame, swingarm & skidplate in the Blazer... & when I returned from my MetalFab mate's place....the frame now sports this mod... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...T6SM/022-1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...T6SM/021-1.jpg No Mo' Buddy Pegs either! :thumbup1: ... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...T6SM/023-1.jpg Just gotta finish stripping off all the old paint now.... :funmeterno: The Saga continues... |

Vando :cool4: |
Been pretty busy lately with looking after my wife who's been in the hospital for over a month now :(.....
Plan on tearing back into the motor this week....so I can expedite the head to the machine shop.:mchappy: |
DAMN Hope all is alright!
|
This was waiting for me when I got to work today :thumbup1:......

Ha! But then I wazzint line dancing at the ho down while some other poor sod powder coated my frame:rolleyes: Have you seen what they've done to the Green Queen? Turning it into a pimpocycle:cursing: |

I'd say!! She looks like a pensioner with too much jewelry on. Geoff's doing a brilliant rebuild job, don't get me wrong, I just don't like his particular choice of colours tho. I mean, gold brake calipers? The old dear must be sulking big time, even if it is a rather good rendition of gold plating.....on calipers? Oh noooooooo. And BLING wheels? They are nice, very mucho in a vogue kinda way, would look good on an urbanised 4x4 in da hood, but on Her Majesty Green? Oh nooooo, he's killed her for sure.
|
Gold calipers sounds like a Bimota trick to me :cool4:
Any links to current pics of the Old girl? :confused1: |
Geoff's one armed (for now) Tenere project... - ADVrider pg 22 or there abouts
|
Quite the PIMP treatment on the old girl there Bruce :cool4:
|
SWEET! looks awesome!
|
Another present from the PowderCoater when I got to work this morning....:thumbup1:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1.../IMG_12231.jpg Serious about getting that motor apart now!..... Can't wait to get this Hunny-Do list outta my hair!!! :rolleyes2:.........:mchappy: |
bash plate
hi bash plate looks really up market in black but sorry to ask is the mounting lug missing at the rear left side as you sit on the bike steve
|
Good eye Steve!:thumbup1:
Yes...the left one is missing.....I've got my MetalFab mate working on a new one for it.:wink3: Good thing is that the bash plate is pretty much the last part to go back onto the bike....so I've got a bit of time to repair it. |
Finally got the head pulled off tonight....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...M/IMG_1226.jpg Barrel doesn't look too bad either.... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...M/IMG_1227.jpg Once the head's in the shop....I can press forward with swapping out rings & gaskets...& paint the barrel & cases... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...M/IMG_1228.jpg |
Cool :thumbup1:
|
Managed to finish prepping the frame for re-assembly.....re-tapped all threaded holes to clean out the excessive powder-coating & NOT destroy any of the fasteners that apply.
Also started in with the polishing process of the swingarm......that'll take awhile :rolleyes2:....but should be well worth it when finished. :thumbup1: New Rings fitted as well..... :cool4: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...CarShow001.jpg |
Was stoked to find that the head was finished when I got to the Machine Shop today after work :thumbup1:.....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...M/IMG_1282.jpg The quite capable Machinist was able to clean up the valves without replacing them.....which saved me @ least $160 just for the exhaust side alone. He did a sweet job of polishing the ports..... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...M/IMG_1281.jpg Also finished the barrel with the last coat of VHT after a good hone, so it's ready for reinstalling..... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...M/IMG_1283.jpg Can't wait to hear the beast the 1st time it coughs to life  |
It wont cough to life, it will ROOOAAARR!!!! :cool4:
|
Hope to hear it Roar before too long.....
Only waiting on exhaust port gaskets now....& they should be here in the next few days:thumbup1: Still managing to make progress in the forward direction so far..... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...M/IMG_1296.jpg Also scored a roll of exhaust heat wrap tape from a local AutoParts store for 16bux...... Alot more affordable mod right now compared to the Cerami-Coating that eventually wanna do to the header.:cool4: |
Just gotta sinch down the SwingArm pivot & the rear suspension is done :thumbup1:.....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...M/IMG_1298.jpg Back to the Wiring......& then the Carb :mchappy:..... |
Spent most of last Saturday re-assembling......
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...M/IMG_1301.jpg My back is killin' me & I was tired....so I decided for postpone the heat wrap treatment for now.....cuz I was on a mission to RIDE!..... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...M/IMG_1303.jpg Even got a new proper FT jacket to go with my newly refurb'd steed :thumbup1: ..... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...M/IMG_1305.jpg After spending the last few months aboard my Sabre.....the XT6 felt like a breath of fresh air to ride.....so light, & steers like it's hardwired to my brain! :mchappy: Gotta say....What a diff the frame repair made to the ride quality! Managed to visit a fav spot on the Willamette river before the sun went down.... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...M/IMG_1306.jpg But when I got home, I discovered an oil leak @ the rear of the barrel....which meant... Tear it down AGAIN! Spent Sunday with the motor back on the bench & sorting out what just seemed to be an over-torqued barrel..... doh Motor's going back in tomorrow after work....can't wait :mchappy: |
