My 2003 XT600E with Mods explained

Heres my 2003 XT600E with the mods iv researched and done.

http://www.tedmagnum.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=9

1) Acerbis 23L tank. I got a white one as David Lambeth said that you can see the fuel line in it.. I have not been able to yet but it is very dull and muggy out. Maybe in bright sunshine ?? Still. Makes the bike stand out and look like a Russian Police bike :) The piping seems flimsey so i intend to get some stainless braided fuel line to replace it with like I did on my XR650R. Looks much better and is indestructible and heat proof.

2)CRD Bash plate from David Lambeth. He modifies these himself. Fits perfectly. He suggests tapping the frame holes out from M6-M8 which i haven't done yet but probably will over the next few weeks.

3)Remus exhaust. Fitted this today. Its pretty loud although it looks like its got a kind of baffle in. Its not bad under 1/2 throttle but when you open it up its pretty dam loud. Not decided whether ill keep this. Ill probably go for a Laser Legal can.

4) Spitfire touring screen. GREAT !! Had a nightmare looking for one so just got this off eBay for £40. Its a universal screen and uses clamp brackets to the bars. Very simple and very effective. GET ONE !!

I intend to get my wheels rebuilt on 21/18 Excel Tagasako rims in the next few months. Ill post pictures and review when I do.

CRD Bashplate

Ted

My advice is to definitely tap out to M8's sooner rather than later and fit the countersunk hex bolts. I literally knocked off my CRD plate when I first had it (4 yrs ago) but since the mod it's been attached like a limpet. It certainly get hits a lot as most of my riding is off-road, so it's certainly a tough item!
Cheers
Bish

How much was the bash plate and where do I get one?
I have an XT600EP that I bought new in 2005. Can still buy them new here.

I also have a universal screen on my XT makes a big difference in comfort on the motorway. I have a Leo Vince slip on muffler and am very pleased with the performance and sound. Definately not too loud and I can leave for work at 5:45am without waking the kids or neighbors but sounds lots better than stock. My acerbis tank doesn't arrive until late Feb. Bike also has loobman fitted and a ventura pack frame. I have some alloy panniers that i found for $60NZD and welded up a frame to suit. Now I just need to ride somewhere.
Bike has done 35000kms now and recently I pulled the swingarm and linkage out to regrease etc. The swingarm bolt was beginning to seize in the motor so if you haven't pulled yours out to grease it yet do so soon while you still can.

39Kb for photo's is pathetic......

Andy.

Contact David lambeth in the UK for the CRD modified bashplate.

My remus isnt rediculously loud but i am getting the odd pop and backfire which means its making the bike a little lean.

I might have to fiddle with the jetting once it warms up :)

Does he have a site or sell to overseas client's?
Thanks Andy.

TedMagnum, nice bike ! I agree the white tank does set it off. Did you re-paint your bike or just remove the decals?I think it looks great without any decals or marking on it.I have a 1991 XT600 , similar to yours and have been looking for a rear rack like the one you use on your bike. I'd like to know where you got it.

I'd PM you but my post count is too low :D

Hi. The only decals on the bike from new are on the tank panels.

When putting on the Acerbis, you get rid of the original tank AND the front panels so theres simply no decals left. Iv removed no decals at all.

The rear rack is just the Yamaha rack for the bike. Im sure there is or was one available for yours too. I dont think the one I have would fit :confused1:

This is my one....

Thanks for sharing yours Ted. Heres mine:

I contacted CRD who gave me the name of UK dealer £100. Tom Beckett 012337 40 790 of deamon mx. It took a few weeks mind. Why modify the bash plate? It seems to fine- though does give off a ringing sound at certain speeds.

Where can you buy those Unversal Screens?
