I really have to suggest you steer away from the 140 Desert for an xt. I have posted my experiences with this tire here at HU previously. It proved less than ideal.

There are many excellent alternatives listed already on this thread. I will briefly summarize my experiences with the desert.
My bike 1986 43F xt600 with OEM 18 inch rear wheel. Your 1JV may be different but not likley.

140 size is too big for this bike. I had to use a smaller front sprocket and shave the tire on the right side to make it fit. The axel must sit in the very rear of it's range in order to allow the tire to clear the front of swing arm. Pain in the arse. Huge size introduced a wobble above 95 Km/h that disappeared when I replaced it with a worn out old 120 size of unknown make.

This tire is a brute to change. Would be ugly to change in the field when flat.

This tire is expensive. Over here this tire typically costs double what other heavy Duty type DS tires cost.

There is no real practical reason to fit a tire wider than 120mm on an XT it will do the job.
If needing on road compliance Pirelli MT-21 and Dunlop 606 are proven and well tested designs. If no compliance is required a personal favourite of mine is Maxxis "Desert" IT a very tough tire.

All the best and good luck with your tire selection,

Pawlie
