K&N filter for 3AJ - part number anyone?
 

Hi

I tried to order a K&N for my 3AJ today, however I was told that they don't have a listing for it! Only XT600E and the non-tenere versions (84-89).

Anyone out there got a K&N for a 3AJ and can share the part number?

K&N don't make foam filters and their filter don't fit.

it is true that k&n has no filter for 3AJ.
it is not true that k&n filter doesn't fit in 3AJ.
with small mods, you can use the filter made for 34L, 43F, 55W, 2KF/2NF (all these have the same airbox).

Why would you want to change from the standard oiled foam filter ?

When on the road it is much easier to maintain that the K & N oiled cotton type, which takes a long time to dry when washed out with warm water and detergent, even in very warm weather.

Also, it's very easy to carry a spare oiled foam filter, the K & N is bulkier and more easily damaged

Does anyone know of an oiled foam filter to fit an XT600E ?

A trick to dry a wet K&N quickly is to just mount it and start the engine. It will automatically run at 3-4000 rpm because of the water injection, just like when you have ridden in too deep water. After a few minutes the water is out and you can oil it.

Thanks for that tip Fred,

I tried similar on very dusty Oz dessert track, but was nervious of a vehicle passing and kicking up sand which might pas through un-oiled filter, so I oiler a bit of cloth and put it over the air intake. Exhaust smoke was very black, which scared me, so I gave it up as a bad idea
