Intake manifolds re-vulcanizable?

I just ordered new intake manifolds for my '94 XT600E due to the dreaded (but apparently fairly common) separation of the aluminum plates from the rubber flanges. At $105 USD (including 2 new "O" rings), how long do these seem to last? Was this something due to some bad, old factory stock or does it happen repeatedly? Also, is it possible to "re-vulcanize" the old pieces back together (even if just for a spare set)?

Hi
I had one set of inlet rubbers last only one year from new and then a new set that have been on the bike now for 3 years with no sign of damage. I think that if you clean them while on the bike when cleaning the motor with a strong detergent this can cause the rubber to become dry and then harden and over time as the motor go's from hot to cold in daily use this then cause's them to part from the ally plates. Its just an idear, there dose not seem to be a real reason for it. I've never tryed to repair them i think it may cost just as much as a new set Hope this helps Skip

I have "repaired" them with high temp RTV gasket maker ...basically glued them back together when they started separating

Great Repair For Carb Rubbers!

Self amalgamating tape, the type used by british telecom engineers or satellite dish installers. it welds itself to itself!
2 turns round the stub and then leave for half an hour before wrapping a few turns of electricians tape round.
This repair (which was ONLY TEMPORARY) lasted 11,000 miles!

windshield glue

Hi guys.

I have used windshield glue(this black silicone thing that they use when they replace windshields on most modern cars) with very good results. Clean the rubber and the aluminium pices with thinner or aceton. then apply windshield glue on the rubber part, make sure to smear it all around the connecting surfice.
When I put them together i sat them on a pice of glass and weighted them down with a steel plate. another option is useing a clamp and two pices of plywood.

Tom.
This is over a year ago now,and they are still holding, and
