ignition question

hello everyone i have read about the different ignitions on the xt's cdi or transistor type on my project i have an ecu part number of 3tb-82305-00 does anyone know which it is? which system is better? thanks j

Brown / red

I cannot check the part number, but if there is a red and a brown wire coming from he alternator going to the 'ECU' unit it is definetely a CDI ignition. If not, it is TCI.
The brown / red wires are the wires that feed the capacitor in the CDI. With TCI, the charge come from the battery.

Better?
Advantage CDI:
- No need for battery, no need for alternator etc etc
Disadvantage CDI:
- Just a bit more apt to breakdown. The capacitor charge coil in the alternator and the CDI itself are known incidentally to breakdown

Never heard about the TCI system itself breaking down, but of course you need the charging / battery system. So more components that each can break down.

As for engine efficiency, no difference to speak of.
