ignition lock broke and so am i xt600e

Right. Been checking through my wiring under the fuel tank along to the headlamp connections. Removed the front mudguard to get to some of this wiring and found this
Looks like i didnt get away as lightly as i thought when some scrote tried to nick my bike 18 months ago. I knew the steering lock was f***ked as a result of the attempted theft. But could this be related to my problems with cutting out? In the meantime could anyone give me a pm with how to bypass the ignition lock. I wanna use my bike for work monday and i have no cash left for a new lock until payday.. stupid f****ing cooker went tits up yesterday...:censored:
Heres a photo of the bottom of the lock.http://i59.tinypic.com/66vnk0.jpg

Hi jjrider. Got your message. Still confused/ stupid though. I have two connectors going to the switch. Two wires and four wires.

jjrider 20 Jun 2015 20:27

It's different than ours then. The blues are lights. you'll have some that just get power for when in the "park" position, I'd guess the ones with the tracers. Try it as I stated and leave the rest open.
One of the blue/tracer will be for an indicator light don't need for now.

Okay. Will do. Managed to get hold of a later wiring diagram applicable to my year. The three blue with tracers . One goes to tci box. One goes to parking switch/ lights and one goes to diode/clutch and sidestand cut off switch. So you reckon leave those three? Read somewhere else about using a fuse instead of a toggle switch. Havent got a toggle switch you see but im sure ive got a 20 amp fuse and carrier. What dya think?

Hmmm, ya that's different colors than my sample, plus the switch only has 4 wires itself, but I believe it should be good as I said. The one going to tci is gray on mine, that's the "rev" indicator. The clutch and side stand one I believe will need to be tied together.

Take the switch off the bike, cut the wires so you can use the connector on the main wires,(other than the blue ones) and do as I pm'ed. fuse block between those others ,see if it starts.

Ill give it a go in the morning. Im kinda hoping this is the fault thats been bugging me for months and yet im also thinking "what a nob" for not making the connection sooner!....cheers for the help! :thumbup1:

The cutting out issue started shortly after the theft attempt ? Around here the first thing they do is a hammer to the switch and see what happens, sometimes a screwdriver into the switch itself. Usually does no good, they destroy the thing that controls power to everything , not bright. Wouldn't matter what they'd do to any of mine , unless they hit the hidden buttons , can do all the hotwiring they want ,will get them nowhere.

On mine they tried to snap the steering lock. Im guessing their intention was to break that and wheel it off from under the bedroom window. At some point i guess they realised i had a disc lock fitted and gave up. I wouldnt have known anything about it. Except my steering seemed to move side to side more than i rememberedeven when locked which had me curious and then i went to remove the disc lock and found it was tight up against the brake caliper. So i knew then the bike had been moved forward slightly. Now days its chained to a ground anchor as well !!

Looking at the diagram . Can anyone tell me what i need to do with the blue wire with yellow tracer and the blue wire with black tracer. Both are coming from the ignition switch/ lock (number 7 on the diagram) one goes to the tci box and one goes to the cut off switches. I have power and lights with the ignition switch bypassed. But no start. What do i do with these wires?? Im confused..doh

I'm lost, way more wires than ours and without knowing what all those components are and the bike right here to test. sorry

I think those two wires need power also. Why they would have six wires when three is plenty no clue. I have four wires in mine and it has the twist to start option(no start button).
