i can't see oil level

hi to all.
i have an XT600 mod.2003
i filled it with 2.8L oil, turned it on,gone for a 5 minute quick ride and checked out the oil level.
the only thing i saw was a dry oil indicator.

can anyone tell me why the oli tank has no oil?

is there a pump that raises the oil to the tank?

or a tube that might be closed?

if i want to see the indicator wet i have to fill in the tank with one more litre!!!

where should i look for the solutionto this???

Sportbilly, do a search on "oil level" and you should find a few posts. Normally you would ride for 10 mins or so, come back, let the bike tickover for a minute, turn it off then check oil. If you think your oil pump may not be working, then before you go for a ride start up and look inside the tank. You should see oil coming into the tank from the oil pump. The other check on your oil pump is to loosen the small screw on top of your oil filter housing (just under the exhaust). When you start up oil should flow out (it will come out fast so be ready). Be careful when re-tightening this screw as the thread is very small and can strip.
Best of luck.

I take it yor sitting on the bike so its level and just resting the dipstick, not screwing it in ??

Just sounds like it needs topping up to be honest.
