how to run-in new 3AJ

I'm going to pick up my first Ténéré 3AJ in 2 days if all goes according to plan. 'The engine has just been rebored with a genuine yamaha piston kit and still needs run in'.

I would appreciate some advice on what I should and shouldn't do with this new engine and how to proceed running it in.

Thanks!

Still got my official handbook for my year-old XT,should be the same.Anyway Yamaha say avoid prolonged riding above 4000 r.p.m. for first 0-1000 kms,oil and filter change, the avoid prolonged riding at over 5000 r.p.m. 1000-1600kms when you can ride it as you want.My experience of big singles though is that they get better as the miles pile up and they`re at their best after about 3000 miles or so,both my XT and an SLR650 Honda I had were noticeably smoother by the time this mileage was reached.

Mine ran very hot during the first 100 miles or so and didn`t like ticking over, probably just tight as it cured itself so give it a while before pounding on the sellers door!Other thing is to make sure it`s warmed up properly before riding, always improtant but especially so with a new/re-built motor.
