How to change tyres?

Having spent 2 hours trying to beat my tyres in to submissison to try and get them off the wheels I had to give up. What is the technique (XT600E steel wheels, MT21 tyres)

any advice would be great

Ive found the best way to break the bead on a tyre is by using a G Clamp. You can get them at any hardware shop. Get one that is wide enough to fit over the steel rim and then just tighten the clamp and it will brake the bead.

Try dropping your tyre pressure down to 15 psi or so, and ride round on the tyre for ten minutes. Makes it warm and therefore softer and more pliable. Then take the wheel off and lay it on the ground, suitably padded to protect the hub and disc. Then stand on the tyre sidewalls with both feet, and try to break the bead with your bodyweight and boots. Dont worry, you won't buckle the wheel. The G clamp suggestion is a good one but they're heavy bits of equipment to lug around with you. You can use the sidestand of your bike instead...have fun(!)
