How old is my Tenere?

Hello fellow Yamophiles,

Can anyone give me an accurate date of manufacture of my XT600 Tenere?
It's a 34L and the frame and engine numbers are - 34L 000416. I suspect it's rather older than its (GB "H" = 89) plate suggests. It has kilometre clocks so I expect it's an import. Does anyone know anything about its history.
Many thanks.

Hi,

The 34L was sold for three years between '83 & '85, so yes it is older than your "H" plate (1 August 1990 – 31 July 1991).

You can contact Yamaha Motor (UK) Ltd for a 'Dating Certificate' to confirm the date of manufacture. When I 'privately' imported my 3AJ, I contacted them on 01932-358000 - but it was some years ago......and cost £25. Fyi, the DVLA required this certificate before issuing an age related plate.

HTH,
Geoff

Hi Geoff,
Thanks for the info, especially about the age related plate.

Well i have,

34L 000217
34L 000241
34L 000610
34L 000883

Al four are 1983, so id guess yours would be as well.

Mezo.

How many Teneres where made between 1983-1985?
Mezo you have an idea?
Karl

Hi Karl,
The 34L aka, "Rascal's dad" is in the middle of a rebuild at the moment. I rode it every day to work during the winter (minus 12C, ice, road salt / grit etc). The only day I didn't was the day the snow was too deep to (sensibly!) ride it - I walked 6km to work that day.
You know it's cold when the seat and suspension are frozen solid!!
So, the paint & metal has taken a pounding. I kinda liked the rusty look but he deserves better. I'll post some before & after pictures soon.
G'day Mezo,
So much for thinking I had the oldest 34L on the road - thanks for the info, I'll look into getting a "proper" (ie 1983) plate for him now.
Thanks both,

Tony
