How long last the engine?

Hi everyone,

I've been riding my 3tb for 2 years. 40000 km no problem.
I just serviced the bike recently.
I'm curious to know what is the max mileage I can expect with this bike, 100 000 km 200 000 km.
After checking the valve clearance, the piston ring, what would be the major work to do?

Hi XT are very log lived though like any machine they do wear out one day, that day depends on there duty cycle , type of terrain and there servicing and the suitablity of the lubricats you use.

As for determining the health of the engine a compression test is a must, followed by keeping a log of oil usage and mpg,

Without an engine strip or complex oil analysis, that is about it? The problem is when you start to strip the bike it becomes false ecomony not to change the bearings gaskets rebore new piston and rings and timming chain, etc.

I here reconditioned David Lambeth bikes are capable of the magic 200k km threshold.

I would say, 100 000 then cam chain will let you know its worn.
Expect left crankshaft bearing to have troubles between 100 and 200 kkms.
Also:
Stator might brake.
Of course some wheels in gearbox might suffer.
and other smaller problems.

Thanks! That's good news...

Hardly depends on riding conditions, but every XT can reach 100.000 km out of major problems. To make your life easier, use esther blend oils and try driving during whole season, or if not possible, add a bit of oil in cylinder when engine is out of runing more than 5 weeks.
