Hot spot on stator cover 1vj

Hi guys I'm Andy and chatting from Ghana in Africa, I great you all, I have been following this website for quite a while now and I decided to join.
I'm the proud owner of a Yamaha xt600z 1vj series 1 which I bought in Italy in 2004 an I had it shipped to Ghana and have been using it ever since, so now I've notice a hot spot on the stator cover that propagates all over but after 10 min of riding it becomes Untouchable but the clutch cover though hot but I can manage to put my hand on it.
So I was wondering if anyone has come up with such a thing on their bikes :helpsmilie:
Thanks guys

indeed, plenty of xts here in italy...
is it charging all right? would suspect a short in one of the fields.
if there's also noise, maybe the rotor touching the stator?

nothing better than taking the cover off and having a peek.

Hi turboguzzi and in deed plenty of them in Italy just like mine a series 1 xtz
Well I took it apart and checked it with a multimeter and the values are not so consistent I had 5.2 ohms on one, 5.0 ohms on the second and 2.1 ohms on the third but the stator does not touch the magnet so I decided to rewind it and found one of the coils had a break in it,
Lucky I managed to rewind it (painfully ) and checked the values and all are good for now  hoping to hit the road and rough stuff soon and now the Hotspot is gone but will keep an eye on the bike.
