Help with my XTZ660 please!

Hi, I have a 1993 XTZ660 Tenere which has been running very well. Recently however she has developed an annoying habit of cutting out when I stop, once she is warmed up. For the first 2 or 3 miles she's fine, I can stop and she will idle without cutting out but after 5 or 6 miles, whenever I stop, she cuts out and is difficult or impossible to restart. She will only restart once cooled down a little (say 5 minutes).

I have had the following checks and adjustments made: Petrol cap not causing a vacuum, spark plug and gap OK, valve clearances reset, idle and mixture settings checked, new battery but she still has this frustrating problem.

Can anyone help? I was wondering if it might be some kind of electrical issue.

I was pointed in the direction of this forum by a member on the Yamaha Owners Club forum so I hope some of you experienced guys on here have maybe come across something similar in the past.

Many thanks.

Next time you stop & it stalls...... Remove the fuel cap, and see if it hisses - LETS AIR IN ????? Could be a vacuum coz the tanks not breathing.... East check !

Also you could check to see how fast fuel is flowing out of the tap - might just be cr*p built up slowing flow ?

Also, coils have been known to fail, by breaking down when hot, even though they can be fine when cooled down. That might explain it. Is the coil mounted close to the cylinder head?

Not perhaps the first thing to look at, but if nothing else comes up ...

He said he had checked that.

It's the first thing I'd check, however, having been caught out by it more than once.
