help with simple elec prob (i hope!)
 

hi,
my xt elctrics were all fine.after taking my bike out of storage it seems to have a problem.
i have no rear light but i do have the rear brake light.front light is fine i belive.
it could be a broken wire but the wiring hasnt been touched so unlikelly.
what about the switchgear?do they give problems and can it be ruled out as the front headlamp works?

You checked the bulb filament? If not its multimeter time

more than likely the bulb these bikes vibrate like hell and destroy the filaments in bulbs, i fitted a new rear light unit that was originally fitted with 2 bulbs so if 1 went the other 1 still worked.
i later converted to LED lights they work great and the vibes don't affect them :thumbup1:

have found the headlamp bulb blown but the rears are fine.have yet to replace the front,but that shouldnt stop the rear working,should it?

No the front blown bulb won't affect the rear one from working. Test the bulb with a short piece of cable connected direct to the battery. Just don't let the positive and negative wires touch. Touch the negative(black) wire to the bulbs metal casing and the positive wire(red) to the small metal at the bottom of the bulb - it must illuminate. If the bulb has two seperate metal pieces below (one for each filament) ,touch to each one at a time each time the bulb should illuminate. Then you know if the bulb is working or whether you have a cable problem. Let's hope it's the bulb - easier.

Check if it the rear bulb is the same as the turn signals aka blinkers and switch them if they are to see if the bulb is ok or not.
