Front Sprocket Removal

I have a huge problem at the moment, I am replacing my chain and sprockets. The problem is that I can't remove the front sprocket, I have removed the nut and lock, but the sprocket won't come lose.

I tried a sprocket puller, but unfortunately the sprocket just broke in half, yet it stall hasn't moved on the spindal, any suggestions on how I can get this off would be appreciated.

The bike in question is a XT600 Tenere 1990 (3AJ).

Thanks

Scott

heat it up with a welding torch!
try to loosen it then with careful hammer-strokes. use lots of rust-loosening oil.
good luck!

Thanks for that, we tried heating it up for about an hour with no luck. In the end we had to use a angel grinder which took about 1 1/2 hours, even then we had to cut around the entire thing to get it off. Would you believe that there was only about a 1/4 of the sprocket left on but it still wouldn't move.

It was like it was one piece of metal, may of my friends who helped me out couldn't believe it.

Hi,
Might be a good idea to replace the seal on the front sproket drive shaft. The heat may have damaged it in someway.
Cheers Ben.

I checked to make sure everything is ok, the bike is running well. I will monitor the situation to see if there is a problem. I agree the heat could have damaged it, but all appears well.

What would be the obvious problem if there was damage?
