fork upgrade

I,ve just got my hands on a spare set of front forks :thumbup1: does any one know of any upgrades or modifications which are better than the original ones..ie ..heavier weight oil, progressive springs etc....any info welcome.....cheers

I have wilbers springs in the mail for my xt600, my buddy did the swap on his xtz660 and there was a big difference.

You can use heavier oil to make it a bit stiffer, but it would still have som sag in it, cant get rid of that without better springs.

Fork Mod from across the pond...

Complete teardown & cleaning, New seals, Progressive Springs, 20w BelRay oil... reduces the sag greatly, and improves off road dampening.
The results are amazing!

also..

7lbs air pressure in the forks....

Put the progressive springs in and new oil but only 10 weight,is there that much difference between the oil weights? and what can I do to better the rear end?

Rear End

As has been said many times before, dont rely on the graduations of the chain tensioners.....Verify distances on both sides between centerline of the rear axle and the centerline of the swingarm bolt.

Out of 5 XT600s, 4 WILL be 1/8" or more off, even with new swingarm bushings. You can make up any diffences with tensioner settings, as long as you have the correct front to rear alignment between the sprockets.

As far as the rear shock, a good cleaning, seal replacement, and attention to the linkages will serve as the best mod you can do.

Weight ?

Oil viscosity is your preference, but I prefer solid positive action (for rocky/sandy/wooded terrain without trails). 20 weight gives my bike that. For the valving inherent with XT forks, I find it more responsive with 20w BelRay.
