fork gaiters

Hi all, I have to repace the gaiters as one is splitting, I am finding it almost impossible to find reviews on products. I am considering ariete Fork gaiters has any one any experience of them. From what little I have read they are from Italy and are meant to be good quality.
Cheers Ian

I was after some for my TTR to do away with those ugly fork protectors but I had no luck ended up buying neoprene fork sleeves had em on a couple of year now and are fine. You may be able to see them on this pic.

neoprene fork sleeves are great (i have them) but they still let dust in.
I actually only zip tied the top so I can regularly clean out the dust.

Rubber gaiters (originals) has a few holes at the bottom, to get the air in and out when the shocks are working, so it sucks some dust or even dirt through the holes too. I still have the original gaiters on, but I'm thinking of changing these to neoprene ones... Should be easier to clean? Looks better too.

I bought the gaiter kit for my Dakar F650 from Wunderlich. The gaiters supplied were Ariete and so far they have been fine.

Thanks for the usual quick responses now undecised I might try the neoprene ones I will price them up against the Ariete and see which I can get cheapest, I am fairly sure I can get both from wemoto will update.:thumbup1:
Thanks

Air breathers

Those holes in the gaiters...

well you do need some kind of thing to let air in/out...

A simple hole works ..

however a better solution is to have a small rubber tube to act as the breather - take the breathing end somewheres clean and above water level. The connection to the gaiters .. well some Tees are setup with a hole through the Tee so that the gaiters breather through that - then you fit a tube (a spring tube works well, standard machinists part to fit things together) to that hole and teh rubber tube breather to that. Adds weight but aids longevity

Those holes are original, I didn't make them. So now there's pretty much no way of sealing them without making a mess and ruining the looks. I'd prefer to swap them to the neoprene ones.

Pyramid Parts

I am hoping to try a pair of these;

Yamaha XT600 XT 600 82-05 Fork Gaiters (Red) | eBay

These will be to replace the UFO MOTOCROSS RUBBER FORK GAITERS that I put on last year which faded quickly then started splitting.
Are the PKN ones any better? I didn't think that it would be a yearly job !

I think it's just a 'red' thing, Min. Red bikes and red cars seem to start heading for pink as soon as they leave the crate and enter this UV-ray-infested World.

I had a red car and later had a pink car. It was one car. I didn't paint it.

Having said that, Min, one year does sound extremely quick for the inevitable 'fade to pink' (and the brittleness). Do you park the bike in a solarium?

theoneandonlymin 22 Nov 2012 10:45

Yes, I live in the sunny South East. My red 81 merc was pink most of the year.
So what am I going to replace the gaiters with ?
Don't really want to go for the neoprene ones. Black is acceptable I guess.

Those Daystar gaitors look like a likely replacement for my stock ones :thumbup1:
