float pin xt600e
Hi all
Trying to get the carburettor float hinge pin out so i can check/clean the filter on the needle valve. Not having much success though. Already given up once for fear of damaging something. Anybody with more experience got a top tip they could pass on? I realise the pin only comes out in one direction and ive read on here not to use a hammer however tempting, but grips or pliers dont want to do it. Help much appreciated Bill |
Yes it will come out, but you need to wiggle with plier. If you bend or use something to knock it out you may break the holder. If you have som cooling spray or air on can you can spray the pin. Air on can can be turned upside down for use as cooling. Give the holder pins a little heat and cool down the pin fast, wiggle and it will come out.

Thanks for the advice xtrock! Its reassuring to know that they all must be a tight fit. I was thinking mine was seized or something. I will try that and report back.

Its the rubber o-ring making it tight, like said just hold with bull nose pliers & wriggle side to side & pulling as you wriggle.

Hi Mezo
Did try that but couldnt get enough purchase with any of my grips. I think ill invest in a new pair. Maybe that will make the difference between success and failure this time. Cheers Bill |
Your trying to get the 3mm pin that holds the float out right? Mezo is talking about the needle valve seat that is held by the phillips(JIS) screw then needs to be pulled out(and the o-ring as he states). For the float pin I have used a hammer and small punch, but you really need to be careful. I have a block that braces the posts so when tapping on the pin it doesn't put side pressure on them.

Hi jjrider.
Thats the one im trying to get out. I did think of making a jig of some sorts to support both legs so i could try the same method. Havent had much luck trying to wiggle it out and i havent got anything to heat the legs up so i might try and rig something up. Bill |
With ya now :blushing:
Just push it out with a driver, or tap it out with a small punch, simples. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...lveremoval.jpg Mezo. |
I will give it ago. Im sure a previous owner has glued it in or welded it . Recommend any suitable glues if it goes tits up ?
|
If you start tapping, dont use anything bigger than the tap itself. What happens if you do is when it loosen you may hit the leg at the same time, get someone to help you and wriggle/pull when you tap.
|
Be sure to support the "leg" if you use more force than mildly pushing on a screwdriver.
|
Yes Jens i supported the legs whilst tapping it
I was sweating all time though .. thankfully it came out and its now back in. And as soon as it stops raining the carbs will be going back on. Cheers Bill |
I recomend this filter, then you dont have to worry about the next filter and you can keep control whats coming from tank.
