fitting TT600 engine with oil cooler?
Hi, I'm thinking about my next project, I have a TT600 59x from 1989 back home, plenty of XT parts and an Acerbis tank.
Whanted to know it I can equip it with an oilcooler from an XT, or another one, without risks, because I read somewhere that the oilpumpe is too weak for adding an oil cooler. But then I have a Tenere 3AJ oilpumpe, and I'm thinking I could put this one in the TT, do you know if it's compatible? Because The engine are exactly the same for what I know, only difference is no radiator on TT, different airbox and oiltank and carburator? Thanks for informations David zimiontheloose.ch | Rock'n'roll Motorcycle Adventure! |
Hello Zimi,
I'm listening in on this one. I too would like to add an oil cooler. Unfortunatly I don't have anything constructive to add. Being Swiss, you might speak German? If this is the case you are at an advantage as there is much XT-TT modification knowledge amongst our German friends. I'm all ears! Good luck, |
Why would this be a problem
The 34L/55W teneres are equiped with standart oil cooler. It has the trouble maker 5Y-1 oil pump. You can just swap that pump for a better and more reliable 3Aj pump. Your engine should be the same as the 34L. There are propper TT forums in german language for more detailed infos. Yamaha's ultimative Enduro Forum Yamaha XT600 / Tenere XT 600 Karl |
Hi guys, thanks for the infos, yes I can read german as well, I will have a look at those forums. It's what I thought, but I was not 100% sure on how similar the engines of the XT and TT are. So probably I will swap the oilpumpe and put an oilcooler. Will post somes news here.... but not before a few month, I'm on the road until beginning of october

Hello Zimi,
I don't speak German so it would be really great if you post up your results with the oil cooler. I'm on a 43F XT which is very similar to your 59x TT. All the best, Pawlie |
For a 43F bike is also very easy.
You can just look on ebay for a used in good condition 34L or 55W cooler. You will need also both oil lines as well. I will try to post those links. Karl |
