Fitting digital tacho - which pick up wire?

I'm fitting a Koso combined speedo/tacho to my 1997 XT 600. The instructions say to attach it to the wire running from the pick-up sensor to the CDI. On my bike there are two, one blue/yellow and one green/white. Does anyone have any experience of which wire will give the best signal?

it's the same signal strength, one is positive the other negative. but find it a bit odd that KOSO take the rpm reading off the pickup/sensor. in all stock electronic tachos i ever seen, signal is either taken from the negative coil post that's wired to the box or a dedicated wire at the ign box.

Thank you for the reply. I tried the coil connection first but got nothing, so the second option was to wire it into the pick up sensor signal. The third is to tap into an electronic signal from the CDI to the tacho which obviously doesn't exist on my model XT. I've connected it to the green/yellow wire and am now getting a signal, although it is showing revs as being much higher than they actually are so I've got to fiddle with the gauge settings to get that right.

the xt600 flywheel has 4 bumps for the sensor, so guess tacho will be showing X4 times the real rpm.... maybe there's some sort of /4 option in the settings

Brilliant. That's exactly the kind of eureka moment I've been searching for. Thanks turboguzzi - your info was so much easier to understand than the instructions.

glad i managed to help and tnxs for the appreciation :)

sometimes you give tips gained in almost 40 years of experience wrenching and people seem to almost get annoyed when it's not the answer THEY wanted to hear ;)
