final tweak advice 98 tenere

Hi all,

Well its finally on the road and its nice to be out on the road at last after a winter in the shed fixing everything.

so id just likr to get a bit of advice on some final tweaks. im running heidenau k60's and just wondering what pressure i should run them for normal road use?

its really vibey. i find it hard to focus on distant objects at 40+mph!!
i know its a big lump but its alot worse than my old dominator. anything i should look at.

its not that fast and the exhaust sounds horrible and pops all over the place. was out for 30mins today and my ears were ringing. do you think the after market one on there could be losing me power?? laser any good?? i would much rather a thud thud than a bang pop bang. it looks like one of the non branded stainless ones from wemoto and alike.

is it worth getting it retuned by a man that can??

your thoughts will be greatly appreciated as at the mo im not really looking forward to the ride to spain in 4 wks!!!!! help quick :)

I guess your bike is the watercooled XTZ660? If not, no worries; the following is universal:

1. Get everything back to factory settings in the carb: float level, needle positions, idle mix screw, synchronisation of 2nd carb etc. Mr. Yamaha is definitely not stupid.
2. Check the carb rubbers - the thingies connecting carb with cilinder head. They get old and start leaking air. If leaking, replace. If expensive, and they are, bad luck....
3. New spark plug if not yet installed.

Try again, and use the above status as a starting point for tweaking further. Any aftermarket exhaust will not have that much influence on the running of the engine that major readjustments are necessary.

Laser is OK, but with mufflers for singles SIZE MATTERS, so the fairly small Laser is not the best choice.

Good luck!
