Exhaust studs

Hi all !

Noticed while cleaning my recently bought bike (03 xt600e) That one of the exhaust studs has been snapped off, and whilst it doesnt seem to be a problem at the moment it is something I would like to attend to... eventually! I have read about the horrors of getting this sorted and the problems people have had but something i havent been able to find out is the size of the replacement studs and nuts I will need to get. Apologies if the info is here and ive missed it, Great site by the way! (already helped me with the oil and filter change) Bill.

Hello fellow Wirralite !

I have owned two XT600E's and one of them had this exact problem.

I got the replacement studs from Marriotts....

To get the broken ones out is a pain in the ass. I had to remove my head and get a blow torch on one and just got it out with a stud extractor..

Another one had to be drilled out..

Another one had to have a nut welded onto it...

Fun eh !!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi!

Thanks for the quick reply! Exhaust is quite rusty and im guessing the previous owner may have tried to remove it to get some welding done on a hole, snapped one stud, given up and had the hole patched in situ. Been to Marriotts a few times already in my brief ownership of this bike, ill call in, in the week and get replacements in readiness. Thanks for your help ! Bill

If you're half handy with a spanner, it really is a lot easier to remove the head to get them out. And A LOT easier...

You could then take the head down to an engineering shop to get them out or give it to me to remove for a crate of beer ;)
