excel wheels on 3aj
hey!
i am rebuilding my 1989 3aj xt600z. the original DID wheels are a mess and i need new ones - both front and rear. i am being ofered a very good deal (160€ new pair) for a set of 160x21 and 215x18 excels (both 36spoke)... problem is the original sizes are 185x21 and 250x18... what do u guys reckon? any experience in fitting narrower rims? thx, R |
Ebay rims from taiwan? They have other sizes aswell. Dunno what material they're build of. There are a LOT of different DID rims, not all are build for offroad purpose. I looked at them, but with shipping and taxes, it was a bad deal for an almost "no name" rim.
If not, sorry to bumb ya thread. |
I'll need check but I think the 3an is 36 spoke front and 40 rear so those rims may not even fit your hubs
|
i can double check, but i'm preety shure they are 36 front and rear...
jens, the wheels are excel takasago. cheers, R |
3AJ front and rear are both 36 hole.
Are you being offerred whole wheels or just rims? If just the rims, make sure that they are drilled to fit the XT hubs: spoke angles can vary from hub to hub. I'm facing the same dilemma with getting a set of rims for my 1VJ XT: I want to build a tough set of wheels for overlanding, but can't seem to find new 2.50 x 18" rims, only 2.15" as that is what most MX and enduro bikes run. I worry that their load rating will be lower ie just designed for race use on a light bike with a single rider and no luggage. They do run with wide enough tyres ie 120/90 x 18 though. Can anyone help us out here? Are 2.15 rims tough enoughfor XT600 use? |
2.15
When my original rim on the 3AJ broke I bought a 2.15 rim by accident, put it on anyway and rode with it several trips, one fully loaded to an fro Turkey from Holland (10.000 km).
So, don't worry, they'll work. Auke |
talon have the 2.50 and build wheels for david lambuth so must be good

3aj wheels and rims (and Other wheel rims)
Sorry to jump into this thread Renato, BUT!
Ok guys, here it is on the line. An idea! doh I also require wheel rims for the 3aj, Paticularly the rear. If there is enougth of us together, what about a bulk purchase. With the intention of less £££ out of our pockets? First; lets see how many are intrested in this proposal. Next who to purchase from. BUT First things First. Who is intrested? Socks away |
