does anyones ten start easy/quickly??

after having endless trouble starting my 1vj tenere and reading other peoples probs too, i got too wondering does anyones actually start first kick or reguarly on second kick etc from cold?? my old dr350 was like a swiss watch when it came to starting, third kick every time!
just wondered is any body getting an easy start in the morn? what were they like from new?
mine has got a problem which im struggling to find but it seems there all reluctant even when running well!
mine barely fires on e start and will never go on the kick start, might as well unbolt it!

hi mate, mine (very tired 34L) was a pig to start when i got it,
I cleaned out the carbs & jets etc (lots of brown deposit)
+ new plug
+ set valve clearances and decompressor cable.
she now starts from cold real easy.
no throttle, one slow kick and then fires on next kick every time.

still a bit tempremental when hot though......work in progress...

As above - second kick

Even with a trashed piston/cylinder!!! (engine sorted now:thumbup1:)

Mine rarely takes more than 2 kicks.

now i feel really bad! i cant imagine in my wildest dreams ever kicking my tenere to start let alone second kick.the good thing is i suppose it highlights that i deff have a real problem that is standing in my way and that i need to find:thumbdown:

There's nothing more satisfying then kickstarting a bike to life

hi there my 1985 xt600 usually starts from cold 2-3 kicks ,when hot 1-2 kicks . everynow and then it throws a strop the carb floods then its a right bastard , its just a big single thing. zigzag:thumbup1:

Yep, my '84 34L usually goes 2nd kick cold, first kick hot :-)

But my carb float sticks sometimes too, floods the engine and I'm toast - better find something else to go and do for a couple of hours while it sorts itself out - no amount of kicking gets it going then :-(

Tried to change the float, but my carb appears to be a bit non-standard - the tangs are different to the Yammy part, so I've just got to put up with it. Humph.

Get someone to check out your stators charge coil output voltage.Could be breaking down and giving a weak signal.
Mine has always been fine to start when cold, but a right bitch when hot.Leave it for about 15-20 mins after a good thrashing and it fires first kick!
My stator is being replaced which should help in that department.

Mine always started 2nd kick......1st when hot.

heres a tip!

NO THROTTLE!!!!! Leave it alone!

Keep it CLOSED, and Kick. choke ON, when she starts. let her idle for 10 seconds, blip her, and then take choke off..... she should be OK then......

XTs dont like a lot of choke.
