Dodgy Starter Relay

Got a new Yammaha xt600cc and everything worked great, except..

Started it yesterday and the starter relay stuck closed and completely killed the battery. :funmeterno:

I'm pretty sure the battery was too flat and caused the sticky solenoid. I've since tested the solenoid a few dozen times without the starter plugged in and it works great, even had the courage to start the bike again with a new battery and had no issue.

So my question is - Would you guys replace the relay even though it's working again? if it sticks closed again I might only have a minute or two to disconnect the battery before I'm down another $80 for it.

Assume it was a sticky relay, not a sticky switch?

If the bike has not had a lot of use before you bought it, it might be a one-off incident that more frequent use will prevent.

There are a lot of poor quality replacement starter relays/solenoids for Yamahas, so if you don't trust the one you've got, make sure you replace it with a quality one.

Yup!

Looks like you were totally right! It isn't sticking at all anymore. But now the clutch isn't fully disengaging... Brand new oil but I might do another oil change in hopes of flushing out any burnt stuff in between the clutch pads.
