Different engine in a XT600 frame???

I have been thinking about this for some time but can't find a suitable unit.

My basic criteria is a tuneable 2 cylinder water cooled engine of at least 750cc.

Any suggestions???

why not build an xt686?
a raptor 660 motor bored out and tune that on top of the big bore will give you some serious grunt.:eek3:

my next engine build will be a 675cc big bore xt600 motor as i've got most of the bits already in stock :thumbup1:

the raptor 660 engine I also thought of it a few months back...
I'd love to see one mounted to the XT's frame :innocent:

I have an XT600 engine with a ported head and high compression piston but it's not enough!!!

I want something with 100bhp or more.
I was looking on ebay but there are very few twin cylinder engines of the size I'm looking for.

There are some nice Triumph triples that might fit without too much bother.:thumbup1:

100bhp in an xt frame you need a 2 stroke for that :cool4:

the 675cc big bore with a re profiled cam and a decent pair of carbs might not get upto the 100bhp mark but i'd say 80bhp in an xt would be some serious power upgrade:thumbup1:

i'm hoping for about 60bhp from the 630cc big bore, flowed head and twin mikuni's i fitted :mchappy:

Do you need any engine parts???
The ported head I have could be yours for £100!!!

wolfzero 16 Mar 2010 17:39

cheers tom but i've already got loads of engine parts in stock including a ported head:thumbup1: its the new oversize sleeve that i'm looking for but they are expensive so i'm looking for nos clearout bits :innocent:

Good luck with that!!!:(

Why on eart do you want to use a heavy xt frame? If you do, what about a 750 super tenere with a 850 tdm motor fitted, with some work, I guees you'll be close to 100hp.

wolfzero, you wont get 60 wheel horses, i doubt it can make 50. Sorry to say, please prove me wrong :)

I originally wanted to build a Tenere 1200 using 2 x 600 barrels.
Anyone up for a challenge???

its all in the torque with these motors so 60bhp at the crank is fine with me thats nigh on 20 more than stock so if i get that at the top end without losing the stomp at the bottom end i'm really happy :thumbup1:

Not to be a wet blanket, but I think you have your work cut out for you there. I would be surprised if the frame could take 100bp without flexing. (I dont know of any DS bike that makes that much)I doubt you'll fit a water cooled engine in either. If you wanted to race in straight lines I'd say go raptor and stick a turbo kit on. Other than that your best bet is to put legs on an existing road bike. There are a few successful conversions around. All though are curiosity items that handle like derailed trains. Goodluck:thumbup1:

100+hp would be wasted in that frame if used for anything other than drags, had a big bore tt600(+3mm hi comp wiesco piston, head shaved 1 thou, ported and polished, performance cam, custom exhaust, replaced airbox with pods and removed the counter weight)was between 60 and 80hp, felt and went like a 2 stroke(apart from weight of coarse). was able to pull 100mph monos from a standing start sitting on a full fuel tank in under ten seconds.... no other bike i have ridden can/has come close. had to get rid of the bike due to the fact it scared the shit out of me from the power. am now in the process of doin this to an 84 xt600 because i miss the tt and cant find it... will keep u posted on mods done
