cylinder head compatibility

Hello there,
I am rebuilding my XT after some idiot ran it out of oil. It was a friend.
ok it was me. It's an '87 2KF kickstart.

anyway, my exhaust headers came off but left an immovable bit in the exhaust flange outlet
thingy.

So i thought I would get a new cylinder head.
Now does anyone know if the different models will swap my 2KF?

There is a very nice clean looking 34L on ebay.

My head is marked 2KF01
barrel is 3AJ00

Hi billog!

I had a cylinder head in the same state as yours. In fact a little bit worse, because all of the exhaust studs on mine had seized and snapped in the head. I got mine out by grinding with dremmel and an old chisel. So it can be done. I know that isnt answering your question though. Good luck with whatever direction you choose.

hi again if the rest of the head is in good condition i would try working with this head ,time and patience can be very rewarding, but then im cheap, remember this is a known head buying second hand can be a lottery ,even more so if unseen from ebay ,have a try im sure you will be very pleased with your efforts ,also a dremmel like tool if you havent got one already is a very handy tool to have in the tool box ,steve

The bolt that is left in the head, soak it wd40. Set nut down on the threads and weld on the top, remove direct after welding when its still hot. Its still possible to save this with some hours of grinding.

Well, as it had previously ran out of oil I saw a nice one on ebay so went for it.
Thanks for the help.

Cylinder head compatibility

Hi billog,

Your 2KF was the 1st bike to use that head, so only the same or later head will fit. You may need your decompression assembly.
If it and its matching cam bearing cover is not damaged, ( cam brg surface) you can try soaking in ordinary vinegar for a few days. It removes alu oxide and may help loosen the headers.

Keep us posted.
