Considering Selling one of my XT's!
 

I am considering selling one of my Yamaha XT600E's.

My 1999 red bike has done 10,000 Kilometres (6-7,000 miles?).

It is in true MINT condition. It was brought new 1999 in Warsaw Poland by a British soldier (WO2) serving in the British Embassy. A friend had it for 3 months then I bought it off him. I am therefore the third registered keeper.

I have it's whole history including original toolkit, manual, import docs, tax disks, MOT's together with receipts for parts etc...

The bike was last serviced September 2012 when it had a oil change, oil filter change and Splitfire spark plug. I fitted new brake pads last year (less than 1,000 miles use).

Michelin SIRAC tyres front and rear (in excellent order) and replacement S/S Goodridge brake hoses.

It has been looked after very well and hardly ridden by me it must be said.

I think the bike is worth between £1,400 and £1,800 in todays climate? Your views on this are welcome...

I have seen a few low mileage minters being sold for £2,400 which to me seems rather ridiculous.

I'm happy to admit I paid £1,600 for it in 2007. :eek3:

The reason for selling the bike is that I find it increasingly difficult to mount a trail bike. I badly injured my spine in 2004 sustaining compression fractures at 3 levels and a rare Cauda Equina spinal cord injury (long story). The seat is simply too high for me now.

If I did decide to out the bike I would want it to go to someone who will look after it. (and not kill it offroad).

I intend to replace it with something more comfortable and easier to mount. The new bike will be used for occasional sedate Sunday rides and the odd short tour. My wife may sometimes come with me on pillion.

My mate has recommended a Yamaha XJR1300?

Personally I see myself riding something like a Triumph Bonneville (T100). But will it do the above including carry the Mrs?

I'm currently in Banjul West Africa but the bike is safely tucked up for the winter (in my dry garage covered in WD40 and connected to a Optimate) in Kent.

I would welcome all your views on all the above points. If there is anyone interested in buying my current steed, simply reply here on forum or if you prefer send me a private PM.

These things are starting to get quite rare in this kind of condition....

keep in mind that all these views are made by people all over the world, and not many are able (or can afford) to buy a bike from UK!

I have listed my bike for sale but I doubt anyone from this forum could buy it.

Try some sales sites when you've made up youre mind, and want to sell. You will get out to a lot more buyers. I read all topics here, and I bet a lot of others do. So just becuase a lot have seen this thread, doesnt mean that a lot got in here, looked for a bike, and decided against it.

I don't fell like you are insensitive (should I?).

It's just that all views, as I have said before, are made by everybody who reads this forum, and maybe they are reading this topic several times, so several more views are made.
And not everyone is interested in a bike: let's admit it, at least most of us have one bike (or more) and aren't looking for another?

And for example, if I would be interested in your bike, there's a few thousand miles between us, so shipping a bike would be quite expensive, so most likely you are limited to UK-only market (as UK buyers doesn't have to pay extra shipping cost). And not all UK buyers, who are searching for a bike, possibly a bike like yours, are registered on this forum and reading these threads? :thumbup1:

Jens has a good point: once you decided on the price, list it on advertisement sites at your top-price, and wait for possible buyers. If no one is interested, gradually reduce the price to the lowest you can accept. At least that's what I do :D

Last but not least: our hard work is never properly rewarded by others who doesn't understand all the love put in a bike by ourselves.
I will be glad to get back the money I have spent on my bike, and my hard work will be "free", haha!

Good luck with the sale, I think it's the best time for that, at least in Lithuania everyone tries to buy a bike when the season is over and the prices are down.

(shortest day of the year, not much else going on, waiting for Christmas to "come and go" in a very wet, high rainfall country at present - nothing new there for 2012!)

Not trying to be cheeky but arent TT600RE's better bikes and can actually get newer ones for similar prices than your XT ?

I know you say yours is mint and its hardly done any miles which is very important in my book.

TT600's are likes hens teeth here in the UK - Not many were ever sold.

I regard a TT600 as a less agricultural, nicer looking XT6. It shares most attributes of the venerable XT600 series of trail bikes.

I have seen low mileage mint XT600E's being sold by bike shops for £2,400! Now that is taking the Micky.

I would probably accept £1,600 for mine which in my book is pretty fair when you consider it's history, mint condition and mileage. I think you will find it very difficult to find a better buy for this amount.
