Coil Confusion!

I have upgraded my engine to a later model xt600e 1990+, my old coil off my 86 only had 1 connection and on the new wiring diagram it seems to have 2 connections- an orange which is straight out of the tci, and now a red/white.

Ive looked on the wiring diagrams and im not any whizz kid on these but it looks like it takes power to the coil? now ive wrongly connected a coil to the power before and it frys it! im hesitant to wire it up because its a new coil.

Also does the r/w wire have a fuse just before its connected to the coil?

Any help is appreciated!

You should use with a XT600E engine its own coil and ignition unit (TCI version on XT600E). Don't try to mix up things, I had my XT600E engine working for a minute or two with a coil from an older engine(CDI version) but it could fry things, as you correctly said.

Well, i played around with my coil the other week & id hate to give you bad advice but this is what i did & it worked fine.

Ive got a 3AJ with a coil with two wires, its insulated from the frame & i wanted to disprove a problem i had (dodgy coil) & the only other coil i had was the type that bolts to the frame & has one orange wire (like this).

So i put a bolt through the metal part & a connector and attached that to the other wire & it fired up no problem. My thinking was just keep the orange wires together & join the others & it should work & it did.

Mezo.
