I have been offered an IMO rallye computer for a very good price (around 100GBP!) they sell for £270-ish, normally.

I like the idea, but there are a couple of issues. Fitting apparently takes about 4-5 hours, depending on how neat you try and make it.

I will be *completely* replacing the dash on my bike, and I'm hoping the smaller area used by the IMO will allow my GPS to also be under the screen.

Has anyone used one?
Will I be able to fit it OK?
Are they reliable?
Will it increase the resale value of my bike?
Are they worth it / is it overkill?

Hi - First thing I would say is 4-5 hours is a huge under-estimate.
I fitted an R300 model and a roadbook to an XTZ660 and spent about a week on it!!
I used none of the brackets supplied with the kit, instead I fabricated my own in stainless steel. With a bit of care you can make it all fit and still retain the dashboard panel making it look neat.
Fitting the magnet and pickup is troublesome. I didn't use the stick on magnet incase it would come off, instead I got the one attached to a threaded stud and drilled and tapped a hole in the brake disc between its mounting holes. This keeps the magnet as close to the axle as possible. Again more stainless brackets to hold the pick up. Touratechs version is a horrible jubilee clip thing.
You'll be removing the speedo and rev counter cables as well, but what do you do about the open drives that are left when you do this? I turned up an alloy plug for the tacho drive and a screw cap to blank off the speedo drive so as to keep the muck out.
My computer also connects to the temperature guage. You must use Touratechs thermocouple as its calibrated different to Yamahas, but guess what - the threads don't match - you need to drill and tap the thermostat housing M10x1
If you go for the lamp kit you have to fit new mutliplugs to the harness - easy enough but time consuming.
The system works well and gives no problems. I have used it in navigation rallies and its very useful in conjunction with the roadbook holder.
I have tried to calibrate the speed against my GPS by editing the wheel circumference until the two read the same.
Vibration was a big problem initally and required a bit of fine tuning with different bits of rubber washers.
Ocassionaly the screen mists up inside. I think a little silica gel inside it might keep this away.
Having done all this I personally would not sell it with the bike, nobody would give you its full value to allow you to buy a system for your next bike, I would just revert back to standard and inform the buyer about the 'missing miles' on the speedo.
Hope it gives you some ideas of whats involved - don't let it put you off.

I may buy it and then take the bike off the road for a few days over xmas to fit it. I'd actually like to give the loom a bit of an overhaul anyway...
