Clutch problem?

1 Attachment(s)
Hi. I got a 1990 XT600E and I had to disassemble the clutch but I forgot to check the position of the plates... now I´ve put it all together as shown in a schematics of the clutch from Yamaha BUT I have a doubt. Between each friction plate there is another metal plate (these metal plates are the ones who lock on the cluth boss). What I can see is that one of the sides of these metal plates look and feel like they´ve been used which I assume it is from metal to metal friction and the other side looks like a brand new part.

My question is. Which side should be faced inwards to the engine?
The number of these metal plates are the #9.

please advise!

Safe ridding! :cool4:

Does it work?

Hiya Vando, when you say you have it back together, but have a doubt,do you mean you have or have not tried to use the bike yet?

My best guess is that the 'polished' or 'used' side has been in contact with the clutch plates. I shouldnt think it would make a lot of difference which way you put them...... when I stripped mine I cleaned them all up in Kerosene to check, then just reassembled them in the same order but not really taking any notice which way round they were..... and my clutch works just fine.
i think you will be OK, but opinions may vary.....

Hi Martyn. Yes, I´ve tried to use the bike but I did notice that the shifts weren´t easy to "gear in" and what I did was adjust the cable on the handlebar by thightening it a bit and now it seems to be ok.

Tonight I´m gonna put the paper joint on the right engine cover because I only used a lil bit of high temp grease just for ride testing in my garage for not even half a minute just to test the clutch.

Are you positive it won´t do any difference by them being like that?

Thanks :thumbup1:

should be OK

Done 1000 Kilometers on mine so far and she runs sweet as a nut!

The shifts and the adjustment is only cos you've had it apart.....

If I have done mine wrong then i will stand to be corrected, but I think she is OK:thumbup1:
