Clutch no tension?
 

Long story short, my clutch has began to get loose and loose over the past week to a point where it does not engage anymore. I tried adjusting the points at the lever and next to the crank case with no luck. I can pull the clutch fully in but there is no tension. Shifting into first causes the bike to lurk and stall. Changed the oil tonight and still no dice. Decided to use yamaha brand 10w-40 and a new filter and still nothing. I put the cable adjustments back to how they are supposed to be (half way at the lever and a few turns out on the other one) and my clutch lever is still a sloppy noodle. The clutch lever does spring back just not as promtly as its supposed to. The lever that connects to the clutch rod on the case does move with the lever, there is just no tension in the lever. Could my plates be stuck together or did i break the clutch rod or is there some other type of adjusting i need to do? would like some insight before i rip off the clutch cover tomorrow. Bike is a 1990 Yamaha xt600 with 10,500 miles. Yes i am new to this forum to bear with me :clap:

Could be stuck plates but i doubt it? but hey worth trying a run down the drive with clutch pulled in & foot on the rear brake to try & break the plates free.

Could be worn fingers on the clutch basket?

There is an adjuster screw in the clutch to adjust tension but I'm not sure if it would give no tension. You need to pull the clutch case off and have a look.

Figured it out everyone... decided to pull off my crank case to examine my clutch today, all looked fine so i continued to take my clutch apart. Seemed fine until i noticed the clutch assembly to be loose. Yanked it out and noticed my clutch basket nut (big nut that holds clutch basket to the crank) was completely off! what the heck? 10,000 miles on the bike and this happens. ugh. Put the bolt back on with some blue lock-tite and torqued to spec, worked perfectly. Thanks for the help guys.

You should have a lock washer under the but to stop it from backing out , no loctite is ever needed . The washer has 2 flaps that get bent up to prevent the nut from turning.
