Center stand for 3aj, is it worth it?
I am fixing up an old 3aj, and was wondering what all the fuss is about a center stand. I am sitting at the bottom most tip of africa, so parts are costly and can be a pain to find.
Is it worth the trouble, i am planning a few trips here and a bit later a full on cape to cairo. Where would i find such an animal any way? Thanx Peter |
Quite agree
I agree with your sentiment; if a bike happens to have one when I buy it then that is fine and if it doesn't, well so what? (a bit of weight saved in fact).

I've got a centre stand on my XT and find it very useful, especially when I get rear wheel punctures, also for oiling the chain etc.
You can do without one though, I suppose it depends how many punctures you expect to get! Matt :) |
puncture
Hi Peter,
I must say we had on every trip this year a puncture. And without support vehicle its very handy to have a center stand. So if you want to do Cape to Cairo I think its good to have one on the bike. regards Thomas www.motozulu.com |
Travelled the whole of Africa without the centerstand. And survived. During the trip I used a box under the footrest to lift the rearwheel for punctures and maintenance. Now, I use a piece of pipe under the footrest. Any fix goes.
Saves indeed a lot of weight plus a pretty heavy thing bouncing up and down on bad roads. Auke |
took mine off
Hi.
I had a center stand on my Tenere but took it off. Sure it has it´s advantages but like Auke says it bounces around alot and it has a tendancy to get stuck in things when you are off road. I guess it depends on what type of rider you are, apparently some of us likes them and some of us don´t:cool4: |
