CDI (black box) XT600

A guy in New Zeland is selling aftermarket cdi boxes on e-bay for xt's SRX's ect...

I am interested in getting a spare in case mine fails.

Can anyone here vouch for this product? Has anyone used one of these sucessfully?

Thanks,
Pawlie

I take it no one has used these before. The Yamaha dealer quoted me $562.97!

Surley this is not the only answer. What do you do (after the crying and the cursing) when the CDI thing packs it in?

CDI for Yamaha

http://www.transmic.net/gbindex.htm Take a look at this. If a stock CDI is available I would buy it. What is the bike worth without it. Some perfectly good bikes in the states no longer have parts available at any cost from the manufacturer. What's it worth to have a part that will keep your bike running on that trip of a lifetime?

Thanks for some sound advice Bill.

Sadly, that home made jobbie was well byond my brain capacity and skill level to figure out. I have just sent away to NZ. for one of the CDI's from E-bay. I will use it as a back up if the stocker packs it in.

Time will tell if I should have followed your advice and bought the Yam product.
thanks for your input,

Pawlie

hi pawlie

i was actually also hoping to buy a cdi unit for my 1986 XT600 from this ebay guy that u have mentioned !

since u have bought it , just wanted to ask if u have tried it and how is this seller ??

CDI units

By all means run in the new box for 10 hours or so to make sure it continues to work. On new units they seem to either fail immediately or wait for years till you are being chased by enraged water buffalo.

I'll definatly plug it in to ensure it works. Thanks for the tip Bill.

I just ordered this thing the other day. Dont expect to receive it for a couple of weeks. I'll report back on its function when I get my hands on it. As for the guy who builds them I know nothing about him except his feedback on e-bay.
Cheers,
Pawlie
