Carb nipple break xt600e
 

Lucky enough to have a spare set of carbs, they do however have an issue a broken nipple on the r/h side carb where a pipe comes from the other side, its a moulded one, any good suggestions for fix, many thanks

find something that will work, in other words looks like it will hold a hose, drill a hole in the carb and tap it in with a hammer and glue it in.
Or get really sophisticated and thread it. A 5mm screw, (maybe 4mm) drill a hole down the centre, drill and tap the carb to fit, and good. The head of the screw will act as the retainer for holding the hose on nicely. You might need to file it down a bit to get the hose over. Whichever way you go, jbweld or similar to hold it firmly in place.

think you can only drill the depth of the boss as the other end has very small hole that controls how much fuel or air gets into or out of the main carb outlet
getting a sutible bit of pipe or whatever might be difficult
apparently its a vent

Is it not the fitting for a vacuum hose to operate a vac-operated fuel shut-off? No vac-op fuel tap, then just block it.

it is not for the fuel valve vacuum, even if it does perceive vacuum on the inlet side. it connects to the pipe that runs to the other carb. i cant be sure the exact function, but youll do well to fix it.


you can drill through, thread, put a threaded nipple in it, like an M4 or M5. if you are paranoic about the little hole, just put in the nipple a little restrictor, but honestly it just passes a vacuum signal to the other carb, there is no metered flow.

Interesting. Just had a look at the carbs on my 660 Baghira. You are right Turbo - the metal spigot on the body of the secondary (RH) carb connects to the side of the primary (LH) carb in line with the air flow chamber (2 small screws, dome shaped cover). Must have an effect on fuel delivery in the primary carb. Now I am intrigued. Google has so far failed my attempts to find it's purpose or even name.


Incidentally, the left hand/primary carb has a spigot on the rubber inlet boot between the carb and cylinder, not on the carb body, which is blanked off on my bike, but I maintain this is a fuel valve vacuum supply.

I think Grant's solution of drilling and tapping the hole, and fitting a screw/bolt (with the head cut off) and a hole the required size drilled down the centre is the most straightforward.

thanks for the ideas, i do have a barb that i could, whats the best word, manipulate from an old carb rubber manifold off an xt600, i do know a guy that might be able to do this if i cant, i only need to drill/thread the hole as deep as that boss on top, i have a feeling that the pipe might have something to do with choke because the hose comes from another barb behind the enricher diaphram area, so its to enrich the what is called the slow running carb, thats how i look at it anyway, ofcourse i am probably wrong !!!
the tiny hole on the inside from the broken barb needs to be there.

got lucky, i know a guy thats got loads of bits for xt600's, has carbs aswell so got another from him, only difference is this ones is brass and not ally, just need a carb kit now
if anybody has a large van and a cheque book they can have all of his stuff.
