Carb adjustment lost

My Xt 600 2001 4PT Started running rough over half throttle . The sparkplug nose was white so I took the carbs off today and found some crap in the primary carb main jet, and the float height high by 3mm.

I blew the carb and jets out as there was some fine dirt in there and reset the float height.

Then when I tried to set the secondary carb's butterfly to 7mm open at idle , there's only enough adjustment to open it 2mm before the adjusting screw bottoms out. Its std length.

Theres quite a gap between the spherical bearing on no1 carb arm and no2 carb linkage.

The linkages look ok.

How do I get my adjustment back ?? I thought about a longer adjuster screw but its some weird very fine thread .

Any suggestions welcome .

Its the primary carb you set to 7mm, then you adjust sec valve just to open.

Something is bent on your linkage . The flat area that the roller runs on should be hitting about 1/3 throttle already and the screw should have plenty of adjustment.

Thanks. I misread the manual. I was setting the carbs the wrong way round !! Duh.
