Buying a 1991 xt600-help

Hello.

Im considering to buy a xt 600 but i have no experience whith this bike. I hope someone here can give me some pointers for what to watch out for.

1. How many km is too mutch in these bikes, do they last long ( i know it depends on the serviceintervalls)

2. Is there a problem with compression on these bikes? i read so in another forum. What are acceptable values if i measure it when i check it out?

3. the actual bike has kickstart only

4. is there other things i should be aware of?

Unbreakable!

Hello,

I've owned my xt 600 e for 10 years ,reached 104 000 km this month.

I bought it in France then moved to Ireland since then was kept outdoor, my experience of this bike: unbreakable!!!!!,

WE off road, long motorway trip back to France or Scotland,Wales, daily commute , 4 road crashes and rebuild, bike stolen and recovered... beside oil change and tyres nothing to declare the engine and frame technology is back from the eighties, they don't do bike like these anymore, easy and cheap to repair and maintenance is so simple it's hard to break anything.

This is what I Changed over 10 years

Rubber Carb inlet X3 (probably due to road salt corrosion)
Starter Relay X 3( usually goes when a low charged battery is used)
Electrics rust is a problem overtime, when the bike is left outside all year round I had to repair wire and connection every year.
And front end bearing, that's from riding off road
Exhaust and studs replaced and rebuild with copper grease again, salt from Scottish winter road
