Braided steel hoses?
 

I am looking at replacing my oil and fuel hoses with braided stainless items.

Has anyone else done this? If so where did you get the parts for the oil hoses?

I've found a few places that do Goodridge hoses, but they don't look like they will screw into the existing fittings. Also the ends of a couple of the oil hoses are crimped rather than threaded - can these be re-used?

I've used both types of aftermarket oil line.

I used stainless steel hoses with anodised aluminium fiitings on my GSX-R. Very expensive & never again. The alumimium fittings are prone to corrosion. One of mine split in two (as did a friends), if it had come off at speed, could have been quite nasty. I've tried looking for stainless fittings but no luck. It is the anodised fittings that are expensive, not the hose itself.

On my DR600 I fitted an aftermarket cooler when the original split. Once mounted, I went to a truck hydraulics business. They supplied very thick walled rubber hose with crimp on plated fittings. I had already established that they had the correct fittings in stock before I started. They gave me all the parts, I cut the hose to length after correct routing, marked it up & returned it to them for crimping. Total cost inc. the cooler & mountings(bought elsewhere) was £52.00. Still going strong 7 years later, with the bike permanently parked outdoors.

Please note: because of the corrosion problems with aluminium fittings, I would never use brake fittings in the same material. IMHO they're for show bikes only. Consequences don't need thinking about......

Like the other Geoff I can recommend Moto Ward ( www.motoward.co.uk ), who I have used for a number of years for Parts, but they have moved away from the Kingston area recently into Sussex.

In my book, Think Auto are the experts in this particular field, and I have used them on a couple of projects ( www.thinkauto.co.uk ). Take a look at their site, but I would also recommend you go there (Isleworth - not far from Slough) as they have taken a look at what I wanted to replace, made up bits, etc.., and also been cheaper than anywhere else I can find.
