bought a lemon,Ive been gypped
Just bought the bike a ten days ago and found the front downtube from the frame dented in two places in front of the exhausts and possible ripple from the top by the head stock.....what to do now?...answers on a postcard....
|
put a couple of pics of the damage on here and see what response you get before going round the sellers house and smacking them in the back of the head with a baseball bat :innocent:
|
Did you buy the bike through Trademe?

The indents in the down tube are normal. I think they are there so you can get a socket on the exhaust nuts. I had to use a short 10mm 1/4 inch drive with extension to undo exhaust nuts as the down tube makes it very tight. Not sure about the ripple, bit more info or picture and I can check my frame. What year, model is your bike? |
Bolla you are the man:thumbup1: looks like the indents are meant to be there and I ll see if I can upload a picture of the ripples, maybe it is meant to be like that...

Don't panic
Hi mate, as said before the dents next the exhaust are there to allow youto fit the exhaust and are meant to be there. I have a few xts/xtz they are all the same. The ripple on the head stock you mention is it on the gusset to the main frame?
A couple of pics would be useful, have you ridden the bike yet? Did it handle ok? Cheers Sam. |

to damage a spine of a frame takes some serious force belive me i know the hard way :( |
hi again....well it looks like the ripples are below the headstock so I.m starting to think that they are normal, don,t know how to post pics yet and hope I am being just a little paranoid.....:oops2:

Looks like an XT600E ???????????
Nothing there that looks worrying to me. I'm sure mine had them too.. Even if they arn't meant to be there, it's a thick steel frame and as long as there are no cracks, it's safe ! I've had loads of bikes with dented cradle frames from rocks etc and they last just as long as undented. Looking at the area around the bumps, there is no "evidence" that it was dented after it was factory painted. Also, there are pressed circles in one of the dents which is only going to be from the factory where it was held in a jig for welding etc etc. You would expect scratches, pits, scraped paint etc if it was from an accident. Only way to be 100% is to compare it with another. But to be honest, all looks fine to me. |
Me TTR600RE also has those dents to aid access to the exhaust nuts !!!
I thought the same when I got my bike home...... Panic over..... |
