Blown gasket - camshaft problems :-(

last week, coming back from skiing , my XT600 2KF had blown the metal gasket between cylinder and head ..; unfortunately I was obliged to run (place without nothing and w/o gsm coverage) and the head run dry ... opened motor and camshaft seems OK but supports are damaged ..:-( before trying to find a new (or used) head it may be advisable to machine work the supports and place a metal bearing ?

-Lesson acquired ...when oil comes out from the motor...stop IMMEDIATELY ...:-(((
altough my mechanic say that's the first time in 40 yrs that he saw a metal gasket blown...

there must be a reason why the gasket is blown!
check the threads of the cylinder head screws!
was the oil level o.k.?
yes, it's possible to put metal bearings (sorry, i don't know the correct english word). http://www.wunderlich.de here in germany offers this work, but it's expensive!
it might be cheaper to look for a second-hand head. right now somebody offers a cylinder and head in www.ebay.de: search for xt 600.
current offer is 105 DEM.

Fortunately i've found the correct dimension metar bearings ...now the machine shop will rebore the head camshaft supports - during the work I will also machine the surfaces Cover/head/cylinder - Here in Italy it will a <100 € work ..:-))) I've found several heads ..but not for cylinder 3AJ..Original spare = 1700 DM !

The first thing I've checked was the state of head bolts - all OK - as the threads ...
maybe a defect in gasket or small crack in surface ...

I will post the exact cost when finished ...but they told me that should be between 100 and 200 Dm for the work ..

Bearings are standard and will post references ..

Some corrections ..original spare (head+cover) are 3400 DM ! list price :-(((

fortunately was not necessary the metal bearings work ...instead the machine shop are rectifying the surfaces at 2/10 of mm. in this way they will just rectify the camshaft support contact surfaces to renew them- 150 Dm work :-)
