big oil problems

Hi,

My Tenere has started to leak oil really badly. Only just started to look at it but at the moment all I can tell is that the oil is leaking somewhere above the carbs as the oil is running down and dripping form the bottom of the right hand carb on to the exhaust and rest of engine. Any ideas anybody ?

Try to see where it come's from. If you can't find out, clean the engine with a steam-cleaner. Let it dry and spray it with flower (yep, the stuff you bake bread from)
Now start the engine and let it run just for a few seconds, kil it and see where the oil sticks in the white flower. Notting to see, let it run a few seconds longer.
You get the idea.
This way you can see exactly what is leaking. Maybe you even need a small mirror, but only one drip is very visible on the white stuff.

Good luck
Maarten

Spray on foot powder works better. Easier to get a nice even coat.

if your tenere is 1VJ or 3AJ:
check air box inside.
the air box drain pipes are located right above the carbs. check/clean every 6000 kms.
maybe too much oil in engine?

Even worse news on the Tenere I'm afraid. It has blown oil everywhere. Through the carbs, through the airbox, and out through the exhaust. It was running great and then stratred to drip oil and hen it just went up in smoke !

Have checked in into a shop who reckon thta the headgasket has gone or the piston rings have brocken. Odd thing though as the bloke i bough it from said it had all been completely re-built and was in tip top condition.
