Battery for XT600E
 

Hey guys!

I want to replace my Yuasa battery on my 1990 XT600E..

I'm looking for a smaller battery preferably Gel battery so I put it on it's side or even upside down...

from what I recon, the Yuasa YTX9-BS is the stock battery and it puts out 12v and 8amps...


Does anyone have any info on this?

if you're running a starter, or have extra electrical stuff, smaller isnt a good idea. keep the stock size. inadequate power to your starter could cause problems all over.

By smaller size I meant in space occupied, not Amps.. sorry, my mistake...

As for electrics I got all standard besides blinkers and rear brake light as they are LEDs and I got a LED blinker relay...

The only one thing I might fit onto the electrics is the Trailtech Vapor computer...but it'll have to be something easy to plug in and plug out because I'll not be leaving the TT Vapor computer on the bike for safety reasons...

I misunderstood. I'm unsure you can get a sealed battery in much smaller size without getting less cranking power.

my bike's battery is, well essentially the size of 6 D cell batteries, and probably a hair more powerful. but my XT is kickstart only, as the factory designed it. look into the 84 XT600 battery, since it is indeed smaller I think, and will likely fit in almost anyplace imaginable.


I must however ask, out of pure curiousity, why you wish to put a smaller battery in?

Well, as you might've read, I'm making a "few" of changes on my XT..
One is I'm taking out is that huge big pile of c:censored:p Yamaha calls an Airbox and maybe (probably) I'll be building my own.

Mine is the 600 1990 E-start but I've fitted a kickstart.
So basically, empirically speaking, I shoudn't need that huge battery and a smaller should work..

The thing is I'm gonna make the bike look much nicer so the airbox, electrics and whatever else well..... keeping them out of sight is one of my top priorities...
So, here is where the smaller battery "variable" lol comes into place.
I want stealth :innocent:

This will make the bike look much cleaner and much lighter!

Summing up... the battery, is basically just for the lights and turning the bike on in places where kicking her isn't easy muddy wet, feet slipping out of grip situations...which will most likely not happen at all.
(don't want to mess up all the hard work up until now lol by crashing while TT or whatever )

ok, I see. the 84 battery/battery box should achieve your goal nicely, and still look very clean. considering that my bike has the side covers, and usually I have the seat on it, I never notice the airbox. now I do agree with you, it sure would be a LOT cleaner/more functional with a more compact intake tract.

when you build one, let me know. I'm still more concerned with the exhaust than the intake side of things on mine though. on the airbox, for me its just more curiousity than anything, and I'd love to know how well it works out.

That is probably the closest thing that I need...

The thing is.. he's asking for 199$ for the 5ah battery :rolleyes2:
(it's on the webpage)

He also says "he" can make 7.5 and 10ah batteries by order..

I guess I'll have to keep the Yuasa battery for now.. perhaps it even fits the way I want...
If the Yuasa does fit... I just might get one of those Gel batteries...

If anyone else finds or knows something more about this please post!
