Attention all XT600 owners
Hello to you all.
If you own an XT600 with the engine number (on R/h engine casing below the exhaust pipe) starting with 3WR , could you answer as many of the questions below as possible please. . 1/ What is the year of manufacture ? . 2/ What country was it sold new in ? . 3/ What is the current mls/kms ? . 4/ Have you had the 5th gear replaced ? . 5/ If you answered YES to question #4, what was the mls/kms when it was replaced ? . Thanks in advance for your input. Bob(not the builder) |
Ask David Lambeth at Overland, what he doesn't know about XT600's isn't worth knowning.

From what I found on service and owners literature, 3WR is suffix for models sold in AU\NZ from 1990 to 2001, so engine could be different.
The idea is that during these years Yamaha made small changes to engine project but not so important (moved clutch from left to right, changed something in ignition curves, also to follow pollution laws). There are some engines more prone to problems, (TTR600, italian made) but between JAP ones I don't see this significant statistic of problems to fifth gear. Surely is adviceable use in a smart way the last gear, only over 70\80 kmh, the more ppl use fifth at low speed, earlier they will have pitting problems. |
5th gear problems
Thanks guys for your replies.
It appears that here in NZ we were never fortunate enough to get the DJ02 4PT XT600E, which by the way has a better gearbox than the previous models (no 5th gear problems, says Dave Lambeth). The good news is that I've found one here & bought it(a 2001 4PT 2nd/h Jap import). Problem solved !! Regards Bob:thumbup1: |
