Airbox mod....
 

I youtubed xt 600e last night and watched a vid of an 600e with an airbox mod....full of big holes with a hi flow filter ....anyone done this to theirs ?

Word on the street is that the carb on the xt needs some "pressure" to mkae the vacuumcarb operate perfectly. You can easely remove the airbox lid and add a K&N filter, but anything above that wont gain you more than problems.

So will there be an improvement with no airbox lid and a K & N ?

The, aleast, newer, xt600e's are jetted pretty rich from the factory, so you should gain some pony's, but nothing whopping. And if you ride as you used to, you should get better fuel milage.

You could try to remove the baffle, or some of it, fromt he exhaust to make it breathe better.

are you shore they are jetted rich ? i was under the impreshion that they were lean to get through the emishions tests . i have had mine to 4500 metres above sea level on standard jetting and OE filter and she ran just fine. i have just got a K&N filter and was wanting to know if i need to change anything ?

My 2003 was rich in the whole area at sealevel. I had to go down in mainjets, even with opened airbox, power headers and aftermarked exhaust.

Youres may differ.

I think the xt600 is so old, that the emiisionstest wasn't as stricht as they are now. My guess is that they a jetted rich to keep the temperatures a bit down.

If youre in doubt, get a lambda probe or get a dynorun with CO meassures.
