Air filter ?

Do this KN filter fit my bike, a xt 600 tenere 87 mod, I want to replace the foam filter that`s on the bike now.

http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?Prod=YA-6084

The filter on my bike is under the tank and the instruction manual shows that this filter is under the seat. Is it the same filters on all XTs ?

I'd stick with a stock foam one, they flow more than enough air.
I don't think K&N make one for the 86-87 Tenere but that one you've listed looks like it might fit, you'd need to try it before buying it.

I bought a K & N for my xt600e but I haven't used it because I don't trust the fit.

Assuming you purchased the correct part (Y3B1 I believe) the K&N fits fine, the difference is that it is held secure by the airbox cover unlike the original item which fits snug without the cover on, just be sure to use the sealing grease provided. But, as Yobbo says, K&N's are not generally recommended unless you are riding only on tarmac. (and not even then by many :) )

Will not fit

Hi Speedy,

the shown filter will only fit at the older kickstart only Teneres 34L,55W,47N but not at the Teneres with electric start 1VJ,3AJ models

I got KN on my other bike and the car and I`m very satisfied with it.
Is there any other filters that I can use instead of the KN ?
Is it possible to wash the sponge rubber filter I got ?

Soap and Water

I bought a MotoAir filter for my 86´Tenere, but for some reason it didn´t run well with the original 1vj engine.I tryed re jetting but was not happy with it,run very rough in idel etc..
Now I have a 3Tb engine from a 94 XT E in the bike and for some reson it works really well in this set up:confused1: All it took was a slight adjustment of the mixture.
To clean your original filter just use normal kitchen soap and water, let it dry and apply some airfilter oil and you are good to go again.
