Aftermarket Handguards for XT600 E ?
 

I'm thinking of fitting Touratech or Acerbis guards, I removed a bar end weight to have a look inside the bar and it does'nt seem as though its' possible to remove the inner threaded damper, I could get an adapter made to screw into the dampers and also take the 6mm screw for the new guard but it seems like a lot of hassle, also has anyone ridden without the bar end weights flat out or at speed, I sometimes get tingling in my fingers after motorway runs now and don't fancy making it worse, if thats going to be the case I'll just have to put up with getting my knuckles wrapped on the inside of the existing crappy ones when green laning. Any thoughts especially on the weights?:eek2:

I would put a bar snake into the handlebars and fit whatever handguards you're happy with. mine has what look like either Acerbis or UFO guards on the bars, and they work quite well. aside from the bike vibrating like a lunatic at high rpm.

Why not go the whole hog and fit new, stronger bars? Having bent the standard steel bars on my 1VJ Ten, I've gone for a set of Enduro High/Dakar Bend Renthals and refitted the KTM barkbusters I was using. Vibration is not discernably different even at motorway speeds and the mirror is still blurred...The KTM busters are some sort of thick plastic, but have been very robust so far - I've even seen one take the weight of a slow speed toppled 990 Adventure without breaking, so they must be tough! They cost about 40 quid and have the advantage of flexing to fit the bars, and not bending when they are bashed.

My original black Yamaha ones are very scratched up so I bought some blue Acerbis MX Uniko handguards.

Unfortunately when I went to fit them earlier I realised there is nowhere for the handguard clamps to fit around the handlebars as the controls (throttle, kill switch, clutch etc) are clamped to the bars where the grips end.:cursing:

The clamp is like in the picture Vando posted.

mx handgaurds are way too short for a bike with switch gear on you need something like barkbusters which have a longer alloy spine in them that will fit round the switchgear:thumbup1:

It was a bit of an impulse buy while I was looking for something else in the bike shop, colour matched so I bought them but the guy at the shop did say I could take them back if they don't fit.

I've just recently installed Barkbuster hand guards on the V-Strom. Really nice and they look pretty cool too.

The Uniko handguards are on, just had to move the controls over 12mm so that they could go on, really pleased with them.
Also fitted new grips.

Went to KTM Dealership yesterday and had a look at some they looked as if they would go straight on once I had moved my MRA screen brackets over but I was sceptical aout their strength and if they would twist on impact (there is only a knurled end on the expansion bolt). The expansion bolt is short and narrow enough to fit inside the threaded section of the existing bars, the bit the bar end weights screw into, most others are too long. It also looks as if they would give the same amount of weather protection as the originals so I will probably go for them. The KTM guy I spoke to had owned an XT and said the bar end weights were fitted to control epicyclic wandering caused by the front brake disc and that junk of rubber but it did'nt really make any difference so I should'nt notice any changes.

Those are nice guards what model XT have you fitted them to and have it got the original bars?

I'm gonna share a secret with you guys!
When you put on these types of Handguards that fit on inside the handlebars you should change the part that goes into the handlebars with those things that are normally used in Construction to hold screws on the walls and ceilings and whatever that when you screw in a screw LOl they get "thicker"!
Here, we call those things "buchas"...

They'll hold much better and if you put some silicone glue they won't budge trust me!

most ktm's now come with fat bars so double check that they set you up with the correct ones for the 7/8 bars on the xt as the fat bars are as the name sugests are fatter beyond the switch gear so the bar clamp mount is a lot bigger i had to alter them on mine as i went from the standard bars to magura fat bars but already had a new set of standard handguards:rolleyes2:
a bit of slippage in an impact is fine it stops things breaking i always ride with my hand controls set so i can move them with a bit of effort opposed to tweaked up really tight:cool4:

the handguards do pretty much the same job as the bar end weights think about it this way if you weighed your bar end weights and the handguards the hand gaurds will be as heavy and the bar clamp is just there to steady them:thumbup1:

have used the ktm guards on all my bikes for the last few years good weather protection but not have still broken a few levers on very low speed crashes . good thing is they do or at least used to come with the drifferent fittings for fat bars and standard bars but may not fit some of the steel bars as they do sometimes have a larger hole in the end of the bar

We know those as Rawlbolts or expansion bolts over here Vando but the ones which would be the right diameter would be too long to fit in the bar end of a 4PT XT but good idea!

The KTM guards I looked at had shims included for 22mm bars, I don't think I can beat them for value (44 pounds), they are fitted to the SMT and Adventure as standard so should be fine, I want them for practicality rather than looks.

DRILL the bar end :D

I helped my godfather to drill his handlebars because of those bar ends for the weights.. yeah he has a 4PT..

or replace the handlebars... they're made out of cheese...

Touratech handguards for the xt660z tenere fits on xt600e 4PT if you drill a hole in the original bar end and make a thread inside the hole if you have that equipment.
