Advice on crankshaft bearing
During dismantling of my 2KF motor I found out that the left crankshaft roller bearing (alternator side) could be very easily moved on the axis. After removing the bearing the axis clearly showed a very shiny surface. The diameter of the axis is about 1-2/100 mm smaller than the nominal inner diameter of the bearing.
Is it possible to repair this by mounting a new bearing with locktight or should I take more drastic measures and what are the possibilities? The motor clearly had a knock and more than normal vibrations before dismantling. Any advice is welcome Guy |

This is the bearing behind the gearwheel for the camchain, just to make sure ...
It should be press-fitted, so if it has movement, there is a problem. Installation with Locktite not recommended, this will not handle the forces on the bearing. Three options: - Yamaha sells this part of the CS complete with bearing and gear - probably very expensive - A second hand CS, and overhaul it (bearing, big end (conrod)) - the gearwheel CAN be removed and re-installed - Weld-on the missing metal and get it grinded to the correct dimensions - I think this might be the cheapest / easiest way to go, although picking up a second hand crankshaft cannot be that difficult either, they almost never break ... |
I came across a guy selling some stuff on ebay based in canterbury who had a bunch of stuff, I managed to relieve him of a couple of crankcases.
But I know he is on the XRV forum as well, with a 750 super tenere he is building up. worth asking there, great guy |
