acerbis handguard fits on standard steering?

Anyone tried to fit acerbis handguards on xt600? I wonder if it fits the original steering bar, after taking out the end weight?

They make a lot of different ones.

Which one are you looking at?

I have theese, non acerbis, they fit: http://www.louis.de/_203edf1867b7b24...nr_gr=10019646

You might need to open the link twice.

Nice,

I was thinking the acerbis rally pro, they come with "Indexed steel bar-end insert mounts solid", so then id have to take out the end weights on the original?

I think its mounting kit is for 7/8"

Those also have a extra plastic spoiler available i think to make it higher for wind protection..

Watch the clocks!

I recently put the Acerbis Rally Pro's on my Tenere. With the mounting kit that came with it, the inner mounting point (the block of machined alloy that clamps round the bar) hit the clocks in the fairing before full lock.

Luckily, my there was a mounting kit for the 'Apico' version in the garage. The same part was about 15mm shorter. Combined with rolling the bars a couple of degrees back it all fitted. Just.

Just something to watch if you've a fixed fairing.

Ralph

(Aside, the Acerbis mounting kit is really nicely machined alloy. It came with shims and bar inserts for the 22mm standard bars plus oversize fatties. The Apico equivalent is plenty solid, but a bit less pleasing to the eye. But if fits.)

Oh, do you have any pics of them mounted on yout Tenere?

I looked up the Touratech ones, they look awesome too :o
Touratech GD hand protectors, theyr for the xt660 but they look shorter and look like they can fit the xt600 :D They also have a spoiler addition and looks very cool.

Look at this pic, the steering bar looks exactly like the xt600'2001, I wonder if they fit, unless the bar on the xt is thinner then the xt660 ?

I don't have the anti-wind extentions, but found they keep the wind off ok - probably better than the standard plastic flaps. Not been in any stinky weather yet, so can't give a full review (though I can't say I'm sorry).

Hope the pic works. Not the best angle for the guards, but you get the idea.

Nice, how is the inner edge fastened? Is it like a clamp on the steering bar like the touratech? The touratech looked like the clamp was on the inside of the break liquid box

I expect it's the same. I'll try to describe it, but bear with me...

There's a piece of alloy shaped like this: Y . The bottom has got a hole in it, threaded to take the bolt that goes through the alloy bay in the handguard.

The handlebars locate in the vally on top of the 'y'. An extra bit of alloy bolts over between the peaks either side of the vally to clamp it all together. With the Acerbis kit, there were shims that fitted round the bars to get it to fit. Standars 22mm bars took the thick shims. The thin ones or none allowed oversize bars to be accomodated.

A picture wouldn't have been worth a thousand words, but it would have saved a good hundred!

Anyone know if the steering bar is the same on that new tenere as on the xt600 2001?

Or what size the steering is on tenere, maybe Id have to change the whole bar to another type to fit that touratech

I have aquired a set of Symtec Motorcycle Grip Heater and would soon have to do some work and take off and on the handlebar grips anyway.
Also interested in heightening the steering bar since i like to stay up when riding.
